Back Pressure Points
There are a couple nerve centers in the back. These back pressure points include between the shoulder blades, kidney area and the last rib on the side of the body. The area just above and between the scapula- or shoulder blades is the area covering the heart and aortic artery arch. If this area were hit with a great deal of force, it could potentially deliver a shock. The problem is it would require more power than most of us could muster, although could serve to cause the attacker to loose balance. The kidneys are partially covered by the last rib and are located on either side of the spine at the waist level. This is a very sensitive area and when struck can incapacitate, even injure. If the last rib were to be fractured it could also potentially rupture the kidney. A knife hand strike or hammer fist would be very effectual here. A well placed side kick- if one were trained for that- would definitely incapacitate your attacker long enough for you to run. Do not use this move lightly or practice on a partner. This could cause permanent damage. The last rib on the side of the body presents a nerve center that could be used in a less than self defense situation as well. It is a very sensitive area (most people are ticklish here) that can experience pain without inflicting possible damage. Perhaps someone has put their arm around you- without permission- simply grind an extended knuckle here and the unwelcomed advance should move away. Of course in a self defense situation a more forceful method will also be effective- say, an elbow strike.
