Hand Grab Escapes

If you are ever grabbed by the wrist or wrists, use these hand grab escapes, never try to simply pull free and run. Regardless of the attacker’s size, he expects this reaction and is prepared for it. It does not take a lot of strength to keep his grip on your arm when you try pulling.

As always, its important to have a plan, keep your head and quickly execute said plan. Grasp something with your own hand now. Note the weakest and strongest part of the grip. The palm would be the strongest, and the four fingers next. The thumb is the weakest part, unless there is actually a gap between the finger tips and thumb, then that would be the “escape hatch”.

If an offender clamps on to one wrist, his thumbs will be on top. Quickly lean into the attack, grasp the captured hand with your free hand, linking your fingers together. Keeping the elbow of your grabbed hand close to your body, lean your weight back and jerk your hand free, through his thumb.

Run

This maneuver works best of it is practiced first. It’s a good one to practice with a partner you know because, usually it does not inflict pain or cause injury (unlike the next technique I’ll show you). Get a partner or a group of friends together and practice until it becomes second nature.

If the offender grabs both of your wrists, he has left himself “wide open”. One swift powerful upward kick to the groin should be enough to cause the attacker to release his grip on your hands. Don’t be nice here, girls. Try to see if you can lift his feet off the ground with this one. If he is in too close, then use your knee.

Again, Run
