Roundhouse Kick

The roundhouse kick is one of the first kicks taught to Taekwondo students. Although flexibility is important to Martial Arts students(kicks delivered to your opponent's head during sparring count better than those to the body)for self defense purposes low kicks are efficient, and even safer.

If you are interested in studying Taekwondo I would encourage you to find a local reputable school with black belt instructors. The instructions here are meant for basic self defense methods only.

Start the by bringing your kicking leg up to your side and pointing your knee up to your target.

Bring your knee up to hip level with your foot horizontally aligned with your hip and knee.

Follow through by extending your leg straight. Your foot should be pointed and the impact will be with your instep. You should think of your leg as a whip as opposed to a bat when executing the kick. Always kick through your subject. Imagine not kicking his stomach, but his spine.

For the most power start from fighting stance: One side facing your target, front foot pointed toward him and the other perpendicular. Deliver the kick with your back foot, torquing your hips as you kick. This method will deliver much more force, but takes more practice.
